Liberthine Mares' Chase

The Liberthine Mares' Chase (currently recognised as the Mrs Paddy Power Mares' Chase) is open to Mares ages five and over. Run over the new course at a distance of 2 miles 4 furlongs this now grade 1 race has taken place since 2021 as the newest addition to the Cheltenham Festival (first since the Golden Miller Novices’ Chase in 2011). It replaced the Centenary Novices’ Handicap Chase.

Taking place of Gold Cup Day (friday) on New Course at Cheltenham Racecourse the race was introduced to boost elite opportunities for mares at the Festival. It features 17 fences with a minimum weight of 11st 2lb. It’s run over the same distance as the Ryanair Chase so is comparable in a sense andf offers top-level opportunities for female jumpers.

Since it's introduction in 2021 all winners so far have been trained in Ireland. To an extent we have Mr Willie Mullins to thanks for that one!
